Training

Snowed In

This year is going to be interesting as I train for Ironman and races in general.  I’ve always managed to fit my training in on the road but I have much more rigorous races planned for 2014 than ever before.  I don’t think on the running side that I have anything less than a half marathon planned and I have, in addition to Ironman Florida, two other big races that are half Iron distance – Augusta 70.3 and The Intimidator (doesn’t that sound fun!) Anyway this week has brought me to Delaware and just in time for a massive snow …

Return of the Dreadmill

So its been about a week and a half now since Space Coast. At this point, the marathon feels like it was a million years ago. Post race last week I too it pretty easy. My total mileage was around 12 miles (not counting the race) and I went as easy as I felt I needed to. I’m still in recovery mode but mostly implementing a reverse taper from the race. This week I’m planning for about 21 miles and next week I’ll be fully back into it. Unfortunately, the start of this week required me to meet my nemesis, …

Back in the Groove

Well, it took me a few days but I’m pretty much fully recovered from Space Coast now. Monday was pretty rough and I had taken the entire day to rest. There was not going to be even an attempt at physical activity since just walking and climbing stairs was difficult. I live in a very runner unfriendly house since its three floors. Tuesday wasn’t much better but I wanted to do something to stretch my legs so I went for a very easy run. My plan was to do whatever felt good. I figured around 2 miles. Well, I managed …

Last 20 Miler Down!

Well, I got in my final 20 miler before the Space Coast Marathon I have coming up. I was a little worried, based on last year, that doing a 20 miler just 2 weeks before the race was a bad idea. But I feel so different this year. My recovery times are so short that they feel non-existant. I can function pretty well after big runs and by the next day I’m fine. I don’t know that I even NEEDED this run, per se, but mentally I did. My last 20 mile run was done in about 3 hours & …

Race Weekend!

Well, I’ve had a lot of fun races so far this year if only because the people I went with were all fun. But really, after Gasparilla, most of my training and racing was focused on getting to October, November, and December. Last month was the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10 Miler. Next month is the Space Coast Marathon. But this month, and this weekend, is TriRock Clearwater. TriRock is owned by Competitor and they’re the same people who do the Rock’n Roll Marathon series. This is a pretty new race (only in its second year here in Clearwater) …
