Sunrise to Sunset: Double Sprinting

Last weekend after we did our metric century ride, a few of the people in my training group mentioned they were doing a pair of triathlons on Saturday.  One in the morning and one in the evening.  They suggested that I come along since it would be fun if we were all there!  I declined because in my head that seemed insane but I figured I’d sign up for one since I wanted to do a race with them.  When I got home after the ride and checked it out, I saw that both races were sprint triathlons of 1/4 …

Moss Park Triathlon Race Report

It’s hard to judge, when you run lots of different types of races, when you’ve run your ‘best’ race out of all of them. My fastest paced race remains a race I did years ago when I first started running. It was a 4 mile Thanksgiving morning race that I finished with an 8:45 per mile pace. My best race up to this point though was probably my Gasparilla half marathon that I finished just over 2 hours and beat my own goal time by a couple minutes…not to mention blowing away my PR. The Moss Park Tri wasn’t quite …

Kiwanis Morton Plant Mease Midnight Run Race Report

On the 4th of July there are always lots of great races to do.  Florida is pretty tough (for me anyway) for racing but its fun to do one on July 4th and for the second time in 3 years I’ve done the Kiwanis Morton Plant Mease 10k.  The first time, in 2011, I did the 1 miler, the 5k and the 10k.  That 5k remains my PR at 27:52 actually though I have a goal of breaking 25 minutes in the next years so hopefully it doesn’t stand long!  This year, I really wanted to PR the 10k at …

Marineland Triathlon Race Report

The race was the Marineland Triathlon about 20 minutes south of St. Augustine  FL. The day before my girlfriend and I spent the afternoon in St. Augustine seeing the fort, walking around and taking a ghost tour. If you’ve never been to St. Augustine, you should go. Its a neat little town. Race day I woke up and things weren’t starting off that great for me. I could tell something was off. But we got everything packed up (seriously, running a tri really is a pain hauling so much gear!) and made it to Marineland for final registration. I almost forgot to fill …

Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Report – My Half PR!

Well I did it! I can’t believe that since November, I went from frantically realizing that I was in deep trouble for my Disney marathon to reaching a really big goal of mine, which was a sub 2:10 half marathon. Everything went about as perfect for me today as I could have hoped. My legs have felt great for weeks and I just knew I had a great run in me for today. My goal was somewhere between 2:05 and 2:10. My final time was 2:04:26 which is a huge PR (personal record for you non-runners). I PRed while training …
