Delicious Success

As I predicted, not all of my weekend plans would come to pass. I realized that it would be nearly impossible to BBQ my ribs on Sunday and do beer on Saturday since there was plenty of prep that still had to happen on Saturday. Primarily, I had to trim down the ribs which required time and space that wouldn’t have been available if I were brewing. Fortunately, the brewing only needs to wait a few more days and I can aim for this coming Saturday. The commitment to a single large endeavor was worth it though! I definitely learned …

Beer & Beef

There is a lot on tap this weekend and I’m not entirely convinced I’m going to successfully pull it off. I still plan to brew beer tomorrow as a redo for a beer that I tried to brew a few months ago and totally forgot the hops. I also plan to do beef ribs on Sunday (assuming we can acquire some). I’m more optimistic about the beef ribs than I am about the beer as the ribs require far less of my attention and Melanie has to go into the hospital. I may push the beer off to next Saturday …

Yoga Time!

I have not done yoga in a few years. I do always enjoy it but it was always tough to fit in even before kids. Now with kids, it’s not always easy to find time to fit in yoga on top of my triathlon focused training and gym time. But gyms are closed and swimming is off the table for now. Melanie is really into yoga and started doing the Nike Training Club yoga in the mornings before anyone is up. She invited me to come along today so I got up early with her to do it. It was …

Downtime

One of the side effects of the pandemic is that suddenly, there isn’t as much of a reason to take PTO. A couple weeks ago I was supposed to have taken a week off for spring break. We were going to visit my parents and go to Disney. Obviously that was cancelled. I also had plans to go skiing that were cancelled. There were trips planned to Chicago for weddings and conferences too. Eventually this will all end and I won’t be able to use up all that PTO (not that I usually do) so I decided to take a …

Food Reset

I love food. Good food. Living in New Orleans I can get access to any amount of great food and not just the typical Cajun and Creole cuisine that people think of when they think of this city. We have incredible pizza, Vietnamese, Mediterranean, and the list goes on. And on top of that Melanie and I love to cook as a way to spend time together and as something we just enjoy. We don’t necessarily focus on healthy food as a rule though we’ve always felt like we cook and eat fairly healthy. Then COVID-19 struck. The biggest change …
